About Us

Information

The Copperas Cove Repeater Association is a local organization that has been providing amateur radio communications to Coryell, Bell and Lampasas County for the past 30 years. The approximately 50 members provide and maintain two amateur radio repeaters.

K5CRA repeater information:

  • Both antennas are mounted on a city-owned tower at an elevation of 1,261 feet above sea level.
  • 2m repeater on a frequency of  145.230, negative offset, 88.5 tone. Both analog FM and digital modes are available.
  • 70cm repeater on a frequency of 443.325 Mhz, positive offset, tone 88.5 Both analog FM and digital modes are available.

Both repearters are Yaesu System Fusion DR-1X repeaters and serve Coryell, Lampasas and Bell counties.

A repeater is a radio that retransmits a low level signal, like from a mobile radio or handi-talkie, boosting it to a higher power radio signal. The repeater and antenna are currently located on a hilltop on the west side of town which increases the coverage area or “footprint” of the radio signal. One of our repeaters operates on VHF (145.230 MHz) and the other is UHF (443.325 MHZ). Both are new state of the art repeaters and have the capability to operate on analog or digital voice and digital data.

Our members also make themselves available to assist Copperas Cove, Coryell County, Bell County and Fort Hood Emergency Management when requested. They may be asked to man amateur radios in the Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), or assist with communications at an incident scene. Many of our members are trained SKYWARN Spotters. To maintain their communications efficiency, members participate in contests, trying to contact as many other stations as they can. This is known as “the Ultimate Contact Sport” among some amateurs. We also participate in nationwide exercises and field days using our equipment under other than optimal conditions to improve our skills. We will help those that wish to obtain an amateur license and our Volunteer Examiner team can administer the FCC exam.

Club Meetings

Cove Repeater Association meets the first Saturday of every month at 8:30 AM at Lil Tex Restaurant, 502 S Main St., Copperas Cove. Visitors welcome.
