Below is a video introducing the principles of DMR and how to use it.
While aimed specifically towards setting up an Anytone DMR handheld, he covers a lot of things that are helpful in programming any DMR radio.
This video includes programming your DMR with a good explanation of DMR repeaters and their usage. Including a good explanation of Time Slots, and Talk Groups.
How to use Talk Groups and being a good neighbor doing so.
How to connect a DMR radio to your hotspot. This is for Anytone radios but the information will apply to any DMR radio. A link has been added to the download section of this page where you can download the correct format of the talkgroups he talks about. This file can be inported into your Anytone DMR radio or you can enter then directly into your own version of DMR radio.
Note: The narrator comments that a Brandmeister password is not required. Now, a Brandmeister hotspot password IS REQUIRED.
Before you can use your DMR radio, you will need to apply for a Digital ID number. Do that here at RadioID Net.
When applying, you will be required to upload an "Official Copy" of your FCC license which you can download from the FCC ULS.
Download Contact List and Talkgroups (Brandmeister and TGIF). Formatted for Anytone DMR radios. Load the downloads in Excel and edit out the talk groups you don't need. Be sure to renumber the left hand column in consecutive order. Those are the entry numbers in your radio. Renumberiing in consecutive order will keep them at the top of the list in your radio. Or you can download the Anytone BM Hotspot talkgroups included in the above video from below.
